This result comes about because the vortex lattice hexagon of the isotropic case has the same energy for all possible orientations; the nearest neighbors are all situated at a circle of a certain radius. The anisotropy amounts to rescaling of x and y directions by different factors, i.e., transforms the nearest neighbor circle to an ellipse. All possible structures so obtained have the same energy in the approximation used here [14].
