For a laser field with pronounced elliptical polarization [7,42] or for an ultrastrong laser field [44] this is different: each region of the spectrum can be attributed to one particular pair of orbits. Since the strengths of the respective pairs are quite different, a multiplateau structure results. For above-threshold ionization, this has been observed in a recent experiment [8].
