This prospective, observational cohort study of 352 ICU patients measured initial and serial organ function with the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score. Both mean scores and highest scores were predictive of outcome. Furthermore, an increasing score selected a patient with at least 50% risk of death.

The trial appears to have demonstrated an improvement in survival with daily dialysis compared with thrice-weekly dialysis. However, the later group received a very low dialysis dose, leaving the minimum affective dose of hemodialysis still in question.
