Pubovaginal sling using cadaveric fascia and bone anchors: Disappointing early results
-
Carbone JM, Kavaler E, Hu JC, Raz S. Pubovaginal sling using cadaveric fascia and bone anchors: disappointing early results. J Urol 2001; 165:1605-1611. Recurrent stress incontinence was found in 37.6% of 154 patients. The paper stresses a re-operation rate of 16.9 %. All cadaveric fascia used for sling material appeared to be fragmented, partly or totally destroyed, with titanium bone anchors in position.

-
Kuuva N, Nilsson CG. A nationwide analysis of complications associated with the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure. Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand 2002; 81:72-77. The authors reported the complications of the TVT procedure in a series of 1455 patients. Most of the complications were minor; the most prevalent was bladder perforation (3.8%). On the basis of this series the authors concluded that the TVT procedure is a safe method.

Determinants of patient dissatisfaction after a tension-free vaginal tape procedure for urinary incontinence
-
Deval B, Jeffry L, Al Najjar F, et al. Determinants of patient dissatisfaction after a tension-free vaginal tape procedure for urinary incontinence. J Urol 2002; 167:2093-2097. A recent work on a 187 patient series. The authors report a global complication rate of 35.3%, with 21.3% new onset urge symptoms and a cure rate found higher when assessed objectively than subjectively. Satisfaction was significantly better for patients whose procedure was performed under local anaesthesia. A high rate of new onset urge symptoms in the group of women who had general or spinal anaesthesia was responsible for the difference.
