In the second edition of Engelhardt's Foundations of Bioethics (New York: Oxford University Press, 1995), Mark Cherry, Tris's slave at the time (now Assistant Professor of Philosophy at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas) made an index entry, "slave," that refers to page numbers on which the names of former or current slaves appear in the book - an altogether excellent form of immortality.
