    • Geometry optimization was performed at the HF/6-31G(d) level of theory. Zero point vibrational energies and thermal corrections to enthalpies were also calculated at this level with a scaling factor of 0.89. Refined energy differences were then computed through single point calculations at the Becke3LYP/6-31G(d)//HF/6-31G(d) level and combined with the HF/6-31G(d) thermal corrections to yield enthalpy differences at 298 K. The strong preference for cis-27 is quite insensitive to the theoretical methods used, as neglect of thermal corrections or the use of HF instead of B3LYP energies leads to essentially the same result.
