    • In our configuration, since the real contacts bear average normal stresses comparable with the yield stress of PMMA, roughnesses on scales much smaller than the micrometer are flattened out by plastic flow (see B.N.J. Persson, J. Chem. Phys. 115, 3840 (2001)). The resulting situation of continuous contact on the micrometer scale explains why we find that capillary condensation does not affect aging for relative humidity in the 8-40% range.
