    • Sources of information on the mechanics of dam removal include a periodic short course on the subject by the Department of Engineering Professional Development at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. This two-day course, titled "Succeeding with a Dam Decommissioning Project," is offered at least once per year. It includes lectures and discussions on the engineering, social, economic, and environmental aspects of dam removal, and it is taught by professionals with experience in planning and engineering aspects of dam removal. A good source of information on federal, state, local, and private funding mechanisms that can be used to finance dam removal and associated river restoration is American Rivers, Paying for Dam Removal: A Guide to Selected Funding Sources (Washington, D.C.: American Rivers, Inc., 2000).
