    • 4% diesel was chosen for laboratory experiments since it approximated the level of diesel found in the water of the field experiment plots. In medium with 12% diesel (the highest concentration tested) the stationary phase growth yield reached an even higher density of 15.0 ± 1.0 OD600 (mean ± range, n = 2).
