note
-
The documentary Troubled waters', broadcast on SBSTV on 26 March 2002, examines the stories of Indonesian fishermen imprisoned in Australian jails, contrary to the principles of the international law of the sea, on charges of violating of Australian waters. The treatment of the fishermen - burning their boats, denying them access to legal advice, imposing draconian fines and jail sentences - disturbingly parallels the punitive policies directed at asylum seekers and refugees.
