    • For a reaction like H + diamond {111}, without a saddlepoint, the reaction path following trajectory is initialized with a large distance between reactants with the remaining coordinates optimized.     • Since there are only very small changes in the vibrational frequencies of the surface in going from the reactants to the transition state, the harmonic oscillator model is quite accurate in representing the changes in the partition function for the surface modes in going from the reactants to the transition state.
