12. We have taken into account a 0.5 V built-in potential in the self-consistent calculation (work-function difference between electrodes E1 and E2). However, this built-in potential has minor influence on the (formula presented) curves.
13. In fact, the band-gap energy of the QD is slightly lowered by the tip-induced electric field, which explains why tunneling of both electrons and holes occurs a bit earlier than expected from Eq. (6) in the self-consistent calculation.
