    • [9] no polymer was obtained in the polymerizations of 10 with either sec-BuLi or potassium naphthalenide in THF at -78 °C. Furthermore, the insoluble gelatinous material was formed by adding 10 to difunctional living polystyrene.

    • We previously reported that ca. 50% of living polymer derived from 3 survived under the conditions at -78 °C for 22 h and -30 °C for 0.5 h. It has however been found recently that only ca. 10% of the starting living polymers derived from 3 survived under such polymerization conditions by determination from the molecular weights of the block copolymers obtained after adding an appropriate amount of styrene to each of both polymerization systems (-78 °C for 22 h and -30 °C for 0.5 h).
