5. Many authors use the term 'electrostriction' exclusively for the description of quadratic electromechanical effects. However, in this paper 'electrostriction' is used in a broader sense as the strain response of matter on an inducing electrical force. This includes the linear electrostriction or converse piezoelectric effect, respectively, and all higher order terms.
