    • The poisoning observed with 30 wt % Pt/Vulcan carbon has been compared to the poisoning of 5 wt % Pt on platelet and ribbon GNF for two reasons. First, the amount of methanol oxidation observed is similar for all three of these materials. It is inferred that the same amount of methanol oxidation byproducts should be electrochemically observed on all three surfaces if the poisoning mechanisms were similar, but this was observed not be the case. Second, because the methanol oxidation current observed with 5 wt % Pt/Vulcan carbon is small, measurement of the poisoning current (as a fraction of the methanol oxidation current) is difficult to measure accurately.
