This excellent new book reviews several aspects of dysphagia evaluation and management, not only in the area of endoscopy but also in refining the clinical swallowing examination and videofluorographic examination. This book is an excellent new text for the dysphagia clinician.

It has been presupposed that occluding the tracheostomy tube or capping it with a speaking valve will reestablish subglottic air pressure and thus improve airway protection during deglutition. This research indicates otherwise.
9. 9 Leder SB, Karas DE: Fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing in the pediatric population. Laryngoscope 2000, 110:1132-1136. There has been reluctance among SLPs to use FEES in neonatal or pediatric populations. This article is the latest research demonstrating that FEES is a valid and useful method in evaluating dysphagia in pediatric patients.
