    • It should be noted, however, that the monopole formula in scalar gravitation, like the quadrupole formula in GR, is only the lowest order term in a multipole expansion. Post-Newtonian expansions for the binary inspirai problem in GR have been developed well past the quadrupole approximation. In [3], for example, such binaries are constructed at the third post-Newtonian level. Also, a post-Newtonian "effective-one-body" method has recently been applied to the inspiral even inside the ISCO [A. Buonanno and T. Damour, Phys. Rev. D 62, 064015 (2000)].
