    • Probably the carbamate anion reacts with TsCl to form a mixed anhydride, that is a highly reactive acylating agent. The literature (Brewster, J. H.; Ciotti, C. J., Jr. J. Am. Chem. Soc, 1955, 77, 6214-6215) reports the formation of such anhydride from a carboxylic acid and TsCl even in the presence of alcoholic hydroxy groups.
