    • If triphenylphosphine is used in place of DPPE, the resulting impure bromo-dendrimer can be used in the subsequent coupling step with no reduction in yield. The triphenylphosphine oxide impurity is then readily removed during purification of the hydroxydendrimer obtained. This was found to be preferable in very large scale syntheses due to TPP being considerably less expensive than DPPE.
