16. The synthesis of allyl menthyl sulfide from menthyl mercaptan instead of directly from the thioketal of (-)-menthone (ref 9) was due to the ease of purification. The mixture of 2d and 7 was more easily separated from unreacted thiol than from unreacted thiolketal.
