note
-
Their records survive in the Sackville Manuscripts (CKS U269) in the Centre for Kentish Studies (Kent Archives Office, Maidstone). Some official and private papers also exist in the Public Records Office, Kew. For the purposes of this paper, the most important accumulation at CKS is a series of vouchers, bills and receipts (CKS U269 A252) which date from 1798 to 1825. Several thousands of such items have been examined.
