Among these are (2S)-α-hydroxy-γ-lactone [I], (2S,4S) α-hydroxy-γ-hydroxymethyl-γ-butyrolactone [II] and (3S)-β-hydroxy-γ-butyroIactone. According to these authors, the former two increase the food-intake, while the last acts to decrease it.
