Monika Ardelt is Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Florida and a 1999 Brookdale National Fellow. Her research focuses on successful human development throughout the life course and the relationship between wisdom, aging well, and dying well. She has also developed a standardized wisdom scale for use in self-administered surveys of older populations. Recent publications include "Antecedents and Effects of Wisdom in Old Age: A Longitudinal Perspective on Aging Well" (Research on Aging, 2000) and "Intellectual Versus Wisdom-Related Knowledge: The Case for a Different Kind of Learning in the Later Years of Life" (Educational Gerontology, 2000).
