20. In a preliminary study, we deposited epitaxial Gd films onto a W(110) substrate at low temperatures. Subsequently, we reduced the growth-induced disorder by sequential annealing steps and observed a transition from a smooth to a discontinuous hysteresis loop. However, this method did not allow reversible tuning of the disorder, which made a detailed and quantitatively significant study of the critical region impossible.
