This is a very interesting paper that discusses whether unintended pregnancy during adulthood is associated with exposure to psychological, physical or sexual abuse or household dysfunction during childhood. If there are connections, then we could evaluate the risk factors at an early stage, and develop and implement prevention and intervention strategies.

Even though physical and sexual abuse often makes us feel uncomfortable and helpless, volume 11 of this journal gives us hope for the future.
78. Wolfe D, Jaffe G. Emerging in the prevention of domestic violence. Future Child 1999; 9:133-144. This paper discusses the importance of prevention of violence at an early stage. The authors discuss that "Responses to domestic violence have focused, to date, primarily on intervention after the problem has already been identified and harm has occurred". It is therefore crucial to start the intervention among children and young people.
