    • Here we adopt the attitude of considering these symmetry-breaking terms to be irrelevant for the late time coarsening behavior (as, e.g., in Refs. 16 and 22). Nonetheless, more detailed investigations are needed to verify the nature and generality of this irrelevance of the symmetry-breaking terms. At this place, we remark that vertical asymmetry can be incorporated by adding suitably defined terms into the effective free energy
    • The effective free energy discussed here does not include “vertical asymmetry” between mound tops and valleys that can be modeled by including Villain–Das Sarma and like terms in the equation of motion [see, e.g., Z. W. Lai and S. Das Sarma, Phys. Rev. Lett. 66, 2348 (1991)]. Here we adopt the attitude of considering these symmetry-breaking terms to be irrelevant for the late time coarsening behavior (as, e.g., in Refs. 16 and 22). Nonetheless, more detailed investigations are needed to verify the nature and generality of this irrelevance of the symmetry-breaking terms.
