Alan E. Rubin is a research geochemist in the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He received a B.S. in Astronomy from the University of Illinois, Urbana in 1974, an M.S. in Geological Sciences from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1979 and a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of New Mexico in 1982. He was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Mineral Sciences at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in 1982-1983 before coming to UCLA
