    • 3 There are essentially two distinct groups of hotel professionals in Italy: general managers and managing owners. Because there are few franchising organizations, chains, or hotels that are operated under management contracts in Italy, individual hotel owners either personally run their hotels (often with the help of family members) or they employ a professional general manager who works under the owner's direct supervision.
