15. 1,5-Dimethyl-1,5-cyclooctadiene purchased from Aldrich Chemical Co. is a mixture of 1,5-dimethyl-1,5-cyclooctadiene and 1,6-dimethyl-1,5-cyclooctadiene in the ratio of 3:1. The mixture was used directly for the hydroboration and separated by recrystallization of the corresponding diols.
