J Am Acad Dermatol 1999, 41:793-796. This article reports on a case of papular purpuric gloves and socks syndrome in which primary infection by parvovirus B19 was demonstrated by seroconversion to the virus. DNA was identified by polymerase chain reaction in both sera and the biopsy specimen. The article suggests that parvovirus B19 is the only etiologic agent that has been adequately proven to cause papular purpuric gloves and socks syndrome.

This is a retrospective cross-sectional survey of patients with pityriasis rosea. A total of 8% of patients with pityriasis rosea had HHV-7 specific antigen, and 14% of control subjects showed HHV-7 specific antigen, suggesting that HHV-7 is not a causative agent in pityriasis rosea.
