Chemoattractant-mediated transient activation and membrane localization of Akt/PKB is required for efficient chemotaxis to cAMP in Dictyostelium

This study shows that pathways activated by chemoattractants are preferentially activated at the front of chemotaxing cells, in the direction of the chemoattractant source. In addition, it demonstrates for the first time a role for Akt/PKB in controlling cell polarity and chemotaxis.

An Akt/PKB-related kinase is essential for morphogenesis in Dictyostelium

In this study, we identify a kinase related to Akt/PKB that is required for morphogenesis. We also demonstrate that Akt/PKB can complement the null phenotype, indicating that Akt/PKB-mediated processes are important for morphogenesis as well as chemotaxis.
