N Engl J Med 1999, 341:70-76. This study raises the issue that early aggressive lipid lowering as part of an antianginal regimen as compared with an initial angioplasty strategy may lessen the totality of coronary events experienced by stable angina patients over the ensuing 18 months. However, the difference in events was due to excess repeat revascularizations in the angioplasty group; there was no important difference in cardiac deaths or nonfatal myocardial infarction.
