    • 3. Elimination of the solvent afforded 1-dodecanol (93%), 2-dodecanol (5%) and minor amounts of dodecane (2%) (GLC analysis). The products are separated from the catalyst by vacuum distillation (still temperature < 120 °C) of the crude reaction mixture. The catalyst can be recovered in nearly quantitative yields after rinsing the residue with hexane.
