42. Using the same procedure, we were able to attach other mesogens and primary alcohols in different ratios.
43. Unpublished results show that symmetrical hexakis(alkylphenylethynyl)benzenes with alkyl being methyl, ethyl, or tert-butyl are not liquid crystalline in contrast to derivatives with n-pentyl of larger tails.
44. This assumes that the presence of 10% of methyl acrylate groups in the backbone (corresponds with only 1% in total mass) does not play a major role, although its influence may not be discarded a priori since small changes in molecular architecture can have dramatic effects.
