Among many influences flowing from the Semitic to the Greek are stressed the most prominent ones which are Stoicism and Christianity. Christianity itself can be understood as a transition of the developed ethical as well as mystical wisdom from the Hebraic to the Greek culture while this transition was performed particularly by the most prominent representatives of it Joshua/Jesous of Nazareth and Saul/Paulus of Tarsus. Zenon of Kitia (336-264) himself, a founder of the Stoic movement, referred to his Kennan origin; similar ancestors can be found also among his immediate pupils. Comp.: Diogenes Laertios; Peri bión gnómón tón en filosofiá eudokimésantón bibilia deka (ed.: Hicks R. D.); William Heinemann, London, 1925: ch. VII.
