    • Molecular modeling of the copper site in CcP was performed on a Silicon Graphics Irix2 computer utilizing Quanta97 (Molecular Simulations Inc.). The protein structure was minimized using the Steepest Descents method in CHARMm for 1000 steps.

    • BCcP protein was constructed, expressed, and purified as described previously (ref 11a,c). The proteins were characterized by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and electrospray mass spectrometry. The measured molecular weight of the mutant proteins corresponds to the calculated molecular weights within experimental error.
