This stem sequence is not present in the human telomeric sequence, and therefore the double stranded stem is presumably missing in the human telomeric structure. The addition of the double-stranded stem has been useful in defining a high affinity binding site for TMPyP2. It is doubtful, however, that this alternative site has any biological relevance.
