    • Zinc enolates gave the best results among the enolates tried. Applying lithium enolates, retro-aldol products were formed during aqueous workup or during in situ reduction of the aldols (DIBALH, -78°C); with alumium enolates, β-elimination of BnOH took place during in situ reduction of the aldols (DIBALH, -78°C).
