Extraction with dichloromethane gave a crude product which was purified by chromatography on silica gel to yield pure butenolides 7. Enantiomeric purities were determined by GC analysis on a 25 m×O.25 mm (ID) Chrompack CP-Chirasil-DEX-CB column.
