8. Coupling constants between protons at C2 and C3 in the NMR spectra of 9-12 established their axial-axial relationship (J = 10 Hz) for 9 and 10 and their axial-equatorial orientation (J = 2 Hz) for 11 and 12. This confirmed that the C2 configuration in all of these tetrahydropyrans is (S).
