12. 8. An oil bath with an effecient stirrer was partitioned by wire mesh to ensure a uniform temperature throughout the experiment. The temperature in each section of the oil bath was confirmed to be same. Normal phase HPLC was performed using ethyl acetate : hexane (30 :70) as the eluent. Absorbance was recorded at fixed wave length of 290 nm.

14. 10. All solvents were HPLC grade and used directly without further purification. In the case of benzene and THF, rates were obtained from both distilled and non-distilled HPLC grade solvents. The half-life difference between distilled and non-distilled solvent was negligible.
