13. It was postulated that an S-acetyl migration occurred initially and followed by a concomitant intramolecular nucleophilic cyclization reaction. Replacements of the S-acetyl group with sterically more hindered acyl groups (Pivoloyl, adamantoyl ) did not prevent this unwanted process from occuring. (formula presented)
