    • 5 which only appeared when the substitution pattern was such as to provide a direct pathway of conjugation from the phenol-OH to a metal-coordinated nitrogen, as is also possible in the terpyridyl ligand described here. The lower energy of the band in the present instance probably reflects the higher positive charge on Ir(III) compared to Ru(II).
