9. 8 (0.01 mol) in 100 mL of 95% EtOH was added to a solution of an arylamine (0.011 mol) in 50 mL of 95% EtOH with stirring at RT for 2 hr and then refluxed for 5 hr. After the mixture was kept overnight, the precipitate was collected by the filtration. Crystallization from aq. EtOH afforded the 5,8-isoquinolinediones 4a-4h (Scheme 2 and Table 1).
