α is in fact very sensitive to the quality of the sample. It is known that only high-quality samples show small damping constants. Also, the value of α might be different from values determined in ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) experiments. In FMR, a small stationary radio frequency excitation causes coherent precession around the effective field. In our experiments, in contrast, the excitation is strong and nonstationary.
