The reaction was deoxygenated with bubbling Ar for 10 min at 0°C (to inhibit loss of volatile solvent and propylene oxide) and photolyzed for 36-48 h with a 450-W medium pressure Hanovia lamp. The test tube was suspended in a pyrex beaker of water 6-8 in from the light source, and the temperature when monitored was approximately 40 °C.
