Duyvendak (note 13) sees a second wave of social movement activity from 1975 to 1980; however, his own data do not necessarily demonstrate that NSM activity levels from 1975 to 1980 should be termed a 'wave' in comparison with 1968-74. Thus I adopt the view that there have been two broad waves of NSM activity from 1968 to the late 1990s, echoing other characterisations (such as Waters, note 14).
22. Wilson has criticised the data collection technique as introducing potential bias in the study. Reviewing Duyvendak's book, he suggests that the choice of the Monday edition of Le Monde for the content analysis is flawed, as the Paris edition appears at a different time than the newspapers selected from other countries.
