17. The term centre de regroupement poses translation problems in that a relocation and a concentration of the population was involved. 'Regrouping centre' appears awkward and 'concentration centre' has unfortunate connotations. The author proposes to refer to the action as 'regrouping' and the settlements as centres.

The author's admiration for Michel Cornaton's pioneering research in his 1967 book was increased when he began to appreciate that many of the military and IGRP documents and reports stamped 'Secret' in the Vincennes Military Archives were referred to in Cornaton's bibliography (pp. 286-288). Indeed, Cornation states that while he was not able to consult then the relevant military archives, General Parlange granted him access to his own personal archives, in particular the IGRP reports, copies of which stamped 'Secret' now reside in the Vincennes archives (Cornaton, 1967, p. 16).
