    • The Mark-Houwink equation employed in the calculations (see Table 2) was established for unmodified PNIPAM. It is assumed here that the equation is also valid for HM-PNIPAM. Since the measurements are carried out in THF, the solution properties of the polymers are not expected to be affected significantly by the presence, on the polymer chain, of a small number of hydrophobic substituents.
