    • According to the findings of the Scientific Research Center on 25-26 July 1996 concerning young people's preferences in the second round of the elections: under the age of 21, 70 percent were in favor of B. Yeltsin and 16.6 percent were in favor of G. Ziuganov; for 21-through 25-year-olds the respective figures were 81.0 and 8.9 percent; 26 through 30, 67.5 and 15.0 percent; in the case of young entrepreneurs, 95.7 and 4.3 percent; college students, 83.7 and 7.0 percent; according to the findings of the Center for Sociological Research at Moscow State University, 55.1 percent of 24-year-olds and 58.9 percent of 30-year-olds voted for the president.

    • In response to the question, "If a situation like that of the GKChP [the "Emergency Committee" during the abortive August coup in 1991] were to take place today, whose side would you be on?" (6,000 respondents were surveyed in sixty-two entities of the Russian Federation), 16 percent would have sided with Yeltsin, 21 percent would have sided with the GKChP, 35 percent would not have sided with either one, and 28 percent found it difficult to answer (see Argumenty i Fakty, 1997, no. 34).
